The Brief
MTN wanted a film about what its data makes possible, told through Tunde Onakoya and his record-breaking chess marathon. The line was "Go make a difference with MTN Data", so his journey on screen had to feel earned, and every step had to point back to that line.
The Idea
Let the world report it. Our part of the story is its paper trail: front pages from papers that seem to span the globe, each announcing the record in its own voice, and at the other end an old button phone with one search on it, chess strategy moves.
How We Made It
We designed eighteen front pages, each with its own masthead, type and layout: Chess Times, World Pawns, The Globe, Global Strategy Times, Gaming News. Black-and-white photographs of Tunde at the board sit under headlines like "60 Hours Make a Champion" and "From Ikorodu to New York City. From Pawn to King." They are built to be read in a second on screen, so the craft goes into the mastheads, headlines and pictures. The phone screen goes the other way, an old mobile browser with a signal bar and one search, and the campaign frame puts Tunde at the board in warm light with "Go Make A Difference" set big in MTN yellow.
