The Brief
A life story is held by the people who shared it. Life & Times of Prof. M.M. Akanbi had to gather those voices into one film the family could keep and return to, and it had to look as considered as the life it records.
The Idea
Let the people who knew the professor tell it, sitting in their own rooms, and give the story warmth between the interviews. The conversations carry the account; bright outdoor scenes of a couple in matching purple carry the feeling.
How We Made It
Interviews are shot seated, the subject looking just off camera beside a window, in soft colour with the room left in the background. The couple scenes are outdoors under trees with a warm, hazy grade: laughter, his hands at her scarf. The title, Life & Times of Prof. M.M. Akanbi, sits small in the top corner of the frame, so every scene reads as part of one record.
