The Brief
Surf & Turf is named for its two sides, seafood and meat, and both are cooked over hard heat in a working kitchen. A busy kitchen is hard to read in a few seconds: what is being cooked, how, and why you should order it.
The Idea
We followed the heat. Every shot sits right at the griddle or the grill, so you watch the smash, the sizzle and the char happen, and the finished food comes up to the lens at the end.
How We Made It
The burger reel opens and closes on the same shot, the finished burger held out in gloved hands. In between, the patties are smashed on the flat-top, bacon crisps beside them and cheese melts over the meat before the stack goes up on a green board with crispy onions and hot sauce. The grill reel moves from chicken and split prawns on the grate to ribs basted with a red brush, chicken floured, fried and tossed in sauce, and lemon squeezed over the prawns to finish. Steel, smoke and daylight from the window keep the kitchen real.
