The Brief
My Dream of Lagos is a short film that moves through the city: its streets, its beach and its masquerades. It needed a highlight that could show that whole world in a few seconds and make people want the full film.
The Idea
Cut the making and the made together. Crew shots (a camera on a gimbal by a window, a softbox carried across the sand, a director checking a tablet beside a masquerade) sit right against the finished frames, so one short piece sells both the film and the team behind it.
How We Made It
The highlight moves fast, close to a cut every second, and runs letterboxed in a wide frame. Daylight street scenes with yellow buses, a skateboarder and a rollerblader filmed low at ground level hand over to the beach at sunset: two white-robed masquerades, a juggler against the sun, dancers on the sand. Night closes it, with fire on the shore and a courtyard strung with fairy lights, performers and masquerades. The crew shots show how it was made: cameras on gimbals, lights walked onto the beach, a monitor checked between takes.
